Backwater valves protect fixtures and drainage openings that are installed below grade; such as in a basement. They protect any subsoil drainage pipe that connects into the sanitary drain from sewage backups.

The city of Windsor gives great benefits for this service thanks to the Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program (BFP).
